Whoever is not bothered by viruses? I don’t take chances to get rid of it and bought comprehensive anti-virus software that requires paying a yearly subscription fee to keep my computer secure from viruses. However, I was surprised when a friend told me about ClamWin anti-virus free software. I just couldn’t believe it.

Clamwin - Scan Window
I was paying for my anti-virus software while ClamWin anti-virus is absolutely free that also works in detecting and stopping all forms of viruses. As I tried the program, I am impressed on how the program excellently provides virus protection and enables me to save some bucks to my pocket. Here are several things I noted from ClamWin anti-virus freeware.
Specifications
I’ve download and used the ClamWin 0.97 version with 36.17MB file size. It works in numerous operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Me, Windows Server 2008, Windows 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows 98.
Features
The freeware challenge the abilities of its counterparts with its advanced technology that supports several computer platforms. The quarantine Browser is a remarkable feature in ClamWin 0.97 version that comes with an option of bringing back the quarantined files. It is also configured with a verification method for digital signature which I find useful in reducing false-positive virus detection.

Clamwin - Preferences
These new feature efficiently works with other existing features of the freeware. For instance, ClamWin’s update feature excellently keeps the freeware up to date with the recent virus protection from the newest viruses. I found out that the wide-range online database of ClamWin freeware is refreshed many times within a 24-hour period.
ClamWin even allows launching the scan either at a customized schedule or during leisure time. As I right-clicked the mouse, it presents several options for thorough scanning process that searches through particular files and directories. In addition, I also liked the freeware’s sound integration with Microsoft Outlook apps and even scan my email attachments to figure out the existence of harmful payloads.

Pros and Cons
ClamWin excellently does its job in detecting and removing viruses in my computer system free from subscription fees. However, I was looking for more helpful features such as automatic scan for newly-activated files. I find it inconvenient place the newly downloaded files from the internet onto the scanner prior to execution. The freeware is also not able to scan files-on-demand which is present among its counterparts and I was kind of disappointed that the freeware’s virus removing ability was not enough to fix virus-infected PC.
ClamWin’s limitation is reasonable for a freeware and it is much better to use it along with other anti-virus modules.
