Are you looking for a project management tool to help you on the implementing development plans? Well, I found the answer to that with GanttProject. Admittedly, I was overwhelmed and even at lost when I first use it because I am not accustomed to using charts, graphs and bar. However, with some reading, I was able to understand how to use it and eventually use it in creating and implementing project development plans.

Specifications
I’ve been using the program for some time and keep with the latest version. I currently use the 2.0.10 version of GanttProject that has a total file size of 9.22MB and works on Windows XP platform. However, before downloading the program, your computer system must be preinstalled first with Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or higher.
Features
The installation process of GanttProject is extremely quick in simple and straightforward user-interface. I was totally impressed that I am using it in my work. GanttProject never restricts me on adding tasks that needs to be done and delegate personnel to every task. It even allows me to institute dependencies in between task such that it will not start till the preceding task is done. I was pleased with the ability of the program to place inside the percentage bar the timeline of a particular stage which makes it easier to view the progress of the project completely hassle-free.
I also find the personnel part of the program excellent as it allows me to put team members of a particular project and delegate tasks with their respective role in the team, phone numbers and email addresses. Meanwhile, the Milestone feature of GanttProject is extremely useful that allows putting a goal at the end to aim with a preset completion time. Lastly, the program saves the files under .xml files, meaning they can be viewed through the internet and could be transferred to other applications like Microsoft Project.
Pros and Cons
I love the program’s simple and clear-cut user-interface as well as its ability in organizing and managing project development plans. However, I find some features unnatural like using the middle mouse in dragging certain task and it does not correlate files with certain tasks, thus allowing members from the other team get their needed files.
GanttProject application is an awesome alternative for paid version a project management program.
