SUMo – Free Software Update Monitor

Developers regularly update the versions of their software and updating your computer system to the latest version consumes a lot of time especially if your system holds plenty of programs. I’ve used different programs in updating my favorite programs and finally settled with SUMo (Software Update Monitor). The program comprehensively scans the computer system and detects whenever latest versions are already available for your favorite programs installed in your computer system.

I had fun using the program because the entire process is automated, meaning it never require much of user-intervention and with just a few clicks, I now enjoy the newer version of my favorite programs. I’ve recommended SUMo to my friends and they’re happy with it too. I listed some great things about SUMo and hope this will help you out.

Specifications

I have been making SUMo my choice for software update program and keep myself updated as well with its latest version, the 2.13.0.108 which is a major bug-fixing release. It works in several computer platforms like Windows Server 2008, Windows NT, Windows Me, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2008, Windows 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows 98 with a total file size of 3.99MB.

Features

When initiating the normal scan, the program searches the start menu to get a list of the installed programs while complete scan inspects the folder “Program Files”, displaying more results calling for some careful and selective elimination of some programs. I am impressed to the program’s fast version checking and system scanning.

Once the system scanning or version checking is done, the program then display a list of all applications or programs I’ve installed in my PC while the programs that requires an update was flagged with unusual icon. Moreover, I am grateful that the program gives me the full discretion whether I wanted to receive a notification about Beta apps or not.

However, I liked the fact that the program alerts me whenever updates are already available for my favorite program which was surprisingly not limited to availability and security updates. Furthermore, adding or removing programs from the scanned list for updates is done by just dragging the executable towards the open window of the program which notably not included on other software-update program.

Pros and Cons

What I like most in SUMo is its fast scanning and version checking with ease while updates are easy to find. However, the “Update” link of SUMo does not direct you to the link for download page and find it inconvenient to see the number of users using the version instead of downloading the program.

Despite its limitation, I find SUMo as an awesome software updating program to keep you updated to the latest version of your favorite programs.
