I was not serious about installing anti-virus software onto my computer system not until the system completely crashes down thus eliminating all the files I stored in them. Since then, I take to heart the importance of installing anti-virus application on my PC and tried different anti-virus software.
Avira AntiVir – Free Antivirus for Windows and Linux
Particular anti-virus software that truly amazes me is the Avira AntiVir wherein aside from the fact that it could be downloaded for free, it has a strong virus detection rates with straightforward interface. In fact, I kept myself updated with the latest version of Avira AntiVir and I am glad to share with you some facts and features of the software that makes it my ultimate choice for anti-virus software.
Specifications
I have recently downloaded and used the Avira AntiVir 10.0.0.611 version. It has a total file size of 47.48 MB and supports several operating system such as Windows XP 32-bit and 64-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit as well as Windows 7.
Features
When compared to older versions, Avira AntiVir 10 welcomes several features. I immediately noticed though that the program’s interface remains the same since version 8. But as I examined further, I noticed new icons at the toolbar with a stationary image background. Moreover, I was surprised with the addition of generic-repair mode which displays the way Avira discovered the threats. The version 9 informs about the detected virus when I’m halfway with the scan or after the scan.
However, version 10 informs about the detected virus right after the scan. I was curious about the five-click installation and later on found out that it only took five windows to install the program although new users must first fill-up the registration form. Notably, the unpacking process of the installation file was pleasantly fast which never let me to reboot my computer after installation. I found out that the version 10 provides an extensive scan customization options thus allowing to execute complete scan both the external and internal hard drives and launch a preloaded-scan.
Pros and Cons
I really love the Avira AntiVirus due to its plain user-interface which was notably unchanged from previous version makes it easier for me to navigate the application quickly. Most especially, the software excellently performs its job of stopping, detecting and removing viruses from my computer system. Also, it does not consume a lot of RAM storage and does not slow down the PC as well. Unfortunately, the software displays plenty of wrong detections and warning which I found annoying.
Well, since version 8 until the version 10, I am pretty much impressed with the performance of Avira AntiVirus program in protecting my PC system from all forms of viruses.
Whoever is not bothered by viruses? I don’t take chances to get rid of it and bought comprehensive anti-virus software that requires paying a yearly subscription fee to keep my computer secure from viruses. However, I was surprised when a friend told me about ClamWin anti-virus free software. I just couldn’t believe it.
 Clamwin - Scan Window
I was paying for my anti-virus software while ClamWin anti-virus is absolutely free that also works in detecting and stopping all forms of viruses. As I tried the program, I am impressed on how the program excellently provides virus protection and enables me to save some bucks to my pocket. Here are several things I noted from ClamWin anti-virus freeware.
Specifications
I’ve download and used the ClamWin 0.97 version with 36.17MB file size. It works in numerous operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Me, Windows Server 2008, Windows 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows 98. » Continue reading Clamwin – Free Open Source Anti Virus
Returnil Virtual System Home Classic
Picture this scenario: you’ve clicked on a link in an email(even though you know you really shouldn’t), or you’ve clicked on a banner telling you have thousands of security problems – and then, suddenly, you really do have a problem. Your computer has been taken over by a so-called ‘security’ program, that has encrypted your files, and is holding them to ransom – and you’re just wishing you could turn back the clock. If you had Returnil Virtual System ($39.95 direct) installed, you could do just that.
 Returnil Virtual System
The basic concept of the Returnil system is a simple one. When you use the System Safe virtualization mode, the actual contents of your computer are untouched, including the registry and file system. Programs you run use Returnil’s virtualized version of the registry, and you won’t see any difference in the way your computer performs – it’s business as usual. The system is kept stable by not including the hibernation file and virtual page memory file. And if you have a malware problem, just reboot and it’s gone. It’s that easy.
Before installing the Returnil Virtual System, you’ll want to make sure your system is completely free of any malware, as rebooting will restore it exactly to it’s previous state, including any pre-existing problems. It might be a good idea to use a Rescue CD; there are a number of these freely available.
