But recently Firefox has released many version within a short period of time, most of these upgrades were not only bug fixes but speed improvement and Security enhancements. In A earlier post we shown you How to Speed up Firefox Startup, here we will show how to increase response time while loading pages.

Firefox About Config warning

If you still like Firefox and worried about speed of the browser the good news is that you can further tweak the browser for speed. here we will discuss some of the special hidden tweaks, which are not available to other normal users. These tweak will not only increase the speed of Firefox overall but also improve page load time for Firefox latest version.

Firefox has a hidden advanced menu which can be activated by typing about:config in address bar. Once you type this command, it presents you a nice little humorous warning with heading “This might void your warranty”, Click on the button “I’ll be careful, I promise!” and you are in. Now once you click that button you will see thousands of option with default values. Had you ever though that this nice Firefox browser will have so many options ?

Anyway we will change some of the selected option to speed up Firefox further. Here is the list of options which we are going to change.

1. Send Multiple requests to a server

Firefox About Config - Network http Options

This option is defined by value network.http.pipelining, by default it is set to False, once you set it to true, it will start sending multiple simultaneous request to web server while loading the page. It improves page load time for your website. simply double click on it and it will toggle from False to True

2. Increase Number of Request to Server

Second option to look for is network.http.pipelining.maxrequests. This defines number of request to be sent, by default the value is set to 4, you can increase it to 8 or 10 depending upon your Line speed.

3. Disable prefetching of Contents

Look for option network.prefetch-next , this is usually set to True by default. Double click it and toggle it to false. This will now stop loading content of WebPages which you have not visited yet. Prefetching start loading other pages of same site which are not yet visited by you but likely to be visited.

4. Stops image placeholders display

look out for option browser.display.show_image_placeholders and set it to false. This option defines how images are displayed while they are not fully downloaded. In Google chrome you will see that the images or placeholder of image is not displayed until they are fully downloaded. However it loads all text so that you can read through the content if any. This increase page load time and you can read through the page while image is being downloaded in background.

These option should increase your page load time in Firefox by a big margin. You will be able to see a big difference after setting these options and I am sure you will love your favorite browser even more like I do.

MOZILLA FIREFOX – What more could you possibly ask for ?

The mozilla team never stops at any cost. The thing is that they never get enough of their products. They just keep developing different products and don’t just wait for competing other companies. In simple words I think you will see the mozilla laboratories on the moon in some years.

Most of the people around me shifted from the standard internet explorer as soon as they experienced firefox; be it an internet café, a friend’s place, or a mere mention of the things you could do. For most, it has become an instant preference. I wasn’t surprised when I heard Mozilla firefox had actually hit the Guiness. Yes, Ladies and gentlemen, that Willy fox is the proud record holder of most downloads in a single day!

Why the craze, you may ask? Well, it’s probably the team’s dedication to a constantly improving browser, giving its users more than the browser next door.

Mozilla firefox 4.0 is a proof that the team wouldn’t take a holiday. It has hit the circles with a bang!

Let me give you at least one reason why!

Latest Mozilla Firefox And Themes

Prism:

Browsers have not been too different since the first IE days. We have to follow long routes to simple tasks such as writing mails, or looking up our goggle calendar. This is where PRISM comes in. It makes life much easier by providing you direct links to what you need to see and brings the desktop applications and internet together.

It will not only allow you to separate your web applications from internet window, but make them available on the desktop to run even when you’re offline.

Mozilla says and I quote,

“Prism is a simple XULRunner based browser that hosts web applications without the normal web browser user interface. Prism is based on a concept called Site Specific Browsers (SSB). An SSB is an application with an embedded browser designed to work exclusively with a single web application. It doesn’t have the menus, toolbars and accoutrements of a normal web browser. An SSB also has a tighter integration with the OS and desktop than a typical web application running through a web browser.”

So what did the team really have in mind when designing you this pretty thing?

First of all, a Separate process! Why wait for a site to load and watch it take forever to do so? It comes with a unique way to staying fast and letting you use all your applications to your heart’s will! The idea is to take the clutter and divide it for the most efficient running of your processes.

Lesser user interfaces (UIs) with the ability of whatever current interface you are using to adapt to the web application running.

Usage of Desktop integration with shortcuts to web applications that you need. It also allows notifications to be displayed.

Extensions such that the user be allowed to add features not specific to a web application but available to him/her as he pleases. Customizing the way you want your internet to be!

Ability to open all external links in user’s original browser instead of changing the browser every time you click a link that guides you to a new site.

What more could you possibly ask for?!

The Google Chrome browser is a very lightweight Browser, but some of us feels it lacks important feature which are required and necessary in order to make it lightweight and speedup. We hope that you already read our article on Tips to speed up Google Chrome.

Some of the features which Mozilla Firefox or IE offers are essential but missing in Google Chrome. We can enhance and improve Google chrome by using these extension and make Google chrome more useful than actually it is while keeping in lightweight.

If you want to switch to Speedy Google chrome but feels it lacks essential features, this post will be useful for you. By using plugins described here you can make it really useful and use it in same way you were using Firefox –

– Secure passwords manager

Google chrome saves your password and have inbuilt password manager but it does not encrypt your password while saving and neither it has the option of having master password to secure your passwords. but you can overcome using a free tool KeePass (provided by — http://keepass.info/).

– Anonymise Chrome

Google chrome installs with a unique installation ID which can be used to identify you. This is not necessary and could be used to exploit you. if you want to remove this download UnChrome (from www.abelssoft.net/unchrome.php) . This little tool will erase your identifier ID and fill zeroes instead.

– Let chrome Look like Firefox or Other Theme

If you don’t like Chromes look or want to have Firefox look you can do so by using theme. Google chrome does not have built in support for themes but you can do that by changing dll files that comes with chrome. You can find several themes for Google chrome on internet ( freechromethemes.com) one of them also feels like Firefox. You can also create one at your own using the tutorial available online.

– Enhance RSS support

Well Chrome does not have inbuild Feed reader/ preview support. again this can be done using a small tool. Go to ” savanttools.com/feedhelp-bookmarklet.asp” and drag the ‘Detect Feed’ link to Bookmarks toolbar. When you click this link on any page which provide RSS feed you can subscribe the RSS feed with your favorite reader.

–Block ads in Chrome

If you want to view pages without ads Google chrome does not have inbuilt support for that but you can do that by using another freeware called HostMan (http://www.abelhadigital.com/2008/07/hostsman-3157-released.html). This little tiny software will help you block ads by using Host file entries.

I hope these will improve your Google chrome while keeping it safe and lightweight for you. Also if you interested in reading how to further speed up your Google Chrome browser have a look at our tutorial — http://www.pchijack.com/internet/tips-to-speed-up-google-chrome/

2. Secure passwords manager
Chrome doesn’t encrypt your saved passwords; neither does it provide a master password to prevent other users from using them or viewing them. Use the free KeePass tool to store and fill your passwords.
