Truthfully, they’ve been offering the service for the past two years, as Norton 360′s online backup feature.

Norton Online Backup

Now, however, Symantec are offering it as a separate service under the moniker of Norton Online Backup. $49.99 per annum gets you 25GB of storage. Its chief distinguishing features are a (mostly) browser-based interface, and the ability to service five PCs on one account. It is, however, missing a few features that are offered by its main competitors.

You can add to the available 25GB of storage by purchasing further amounts – 10, 20, 50 or 100Gb of storage will cost you, respectively, $29.99, $49.99, $79.99, and $149.99. However, unlike its competitors such as SOS Online Backup, there is no free, basic-level storage option offered. Also you can use this on 5 different computer running either on Mac or Windows.

When you compare prices with market leaders, you’ll find that MozyHome Online Backup and Carbonite both offer effectively unlimited storage, for $4.95 per month and $49.95 per year respectively. SOS Online Backup, although packed with features, offers only 15 GB for a yearly fee of $49.95. The main criteria, when deciding which offer is the right one for you, will obviously be the amount of data you’re needing to back up.

In sheer terms of dollars per gigabyte, cost effectiveness is wholly dependent on how much storage space you will use. Overall, if you calculate pricing based on using every bit of storage space allotted to you, Norton prices come out as being quite competitive.

Symantec is advertising Norton Online Backup as being web-based, but that’s not, technically, completely true. In order to use the service you have to download and install two Windows processes, NoBuClient and NoBuAgent. They don’t take up much hard disk space – just 13 MB between them – but it does mean that the service is not wholly web-based.

Once you’ve installed these, you’ll see a shortcut on your desktop for launching the service, as well as a tray icon indicating its status – green for a successfully completed backup, and red for a failed backup. And as is probably apparent by now, this service is for Windows users only.

With the launch of Chrome based Netbook by Google it is obvious that future is online only. In coming days we will be using everything online instead of buying and installing application on our computer. We will have to be dependent on Online services and pay for them if required. Keeping that in mind I have prepared a list of 7 most essential services / application which are used online these days and must have for any user who is going to use Netbook like Cr-48 (chrome Based).

Online Services By Google

1. Google Search — Well Google search is first in my list and almost every web user who uses internet in any form uses it for one thing or other. Google search has become an integral part of online life in last few years and One can’t live in cyberspace with Google search. Now you can say that why not other search engine, Yes they are also there but 90% of search performed in Internet space are using Google. So clearly Google is market leader in the search operation and no other Search engine going to take that position for at least 5 more years. The way Google is improving and optimizing their search results it will be safe to say in the future all other search engine will lose their market share sooner or later.

2. Gmail or Google Mail — There was a time when All free email service provider started thinking to go paid. Some of them already did that like usa.net and then came the Gmail which changed the way free web based service will be used by us. They not only announced free mailing but also Gave space of 1Gb which was dream at that time. Now the days Again Gmail drives the way other free web service provider works and provide service to you. Here also Google has best services and they also have another premium Gmail service where they charge you but even basic Gmail is more than enough for any user.

3. Google Docs — Google doc is one service which removed requirement of buying Microsoft Office or installing any other application on your machine. You can almost do anything and everything a home user need for Office suite point of view, using Google docs and that too free. All you need is internet connectivity and an Google Account which is free. It also have real time document sharing and updating feature where multiple user can work on same document all together.

4. Dropbox — Dropbox provides you 2Gb web space for free to store any of your important files. If you need more space you can purchase that by paying some nominal fees, but for an home user I don’t see any reason to buy more than 2GB space for their normal usage unless you plan to store all your Video online Dropbox creates a shared folder in your windows explorer and once configured it can be used like any other Folder or partition on your Hard disk.

So here is the list 4 best online free service and by subscribing and using these you can get rid of several Application which otherwise you need to perform normal day to day activities. Moreover these are free and usage your internet connection which anyway you going to have as basic necessity for you.
Though Rapidshare has several restriction for Free users but despite that internet users prefers rapidshare above others. There are several utilities also available to schedule downloads from Rapidshare.

Rapidshare also offers premium membership, after getting which you can use any download manager to download from rapidshare. According to some approximation currently rapidshare is hosting Several terabytes of files.

Though Rapidshare does not allow public searching of files hosted by them, but we can search internet for links to files hosted on rapidshare. All of these links are posted by users of rapidshare to share files with friends or on forums.Rapid share was so popular in past that it was only choice of uploaders, as there was no other webservice providing large amount of storage space, and neither webmail account had so much space.

To search files hosted and shared by other we can format our search query in Google as given below, Just copy and paste the URL in your address bar as given below –

All rapidshare.com Downloads (replace * with your query):

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=+.*+site%3Arapidshare.com

Apps Downloads:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=.cab+OR+.exe+OR+.rar+OR+.zip+site%3Arapidshare.com&btnG=Search

Movies rapidshare.com Downloads:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=+.Avi+OR+.mpg+OR+.mpeg+site%3Arapidshare.com&btnG=Search

Results of these searches would look something like as shown in following image –
