Thank you for these instructions. However, I am having some difficulty making use of the RamDisk. If I try to assign the Windows paging file to the RamDisk, I first need to format the disk. After that, the new paging file assignment will not become effective until reboot. On reboot, the RamDisk formatting is lost, and Windows assigns a temporary paging file to all drives and pops up an error message on the Windows desktop. Can you advise me about this?

I have just purchased a Compaq with nVidia chipset using an Athlon II x2 270 3.4GHz processor. The VGA is AMD Radeon 1GB and 2x4GB DDR3 memory cards making 8GB total.

I have installed RamDISK Plus 11.5 to Windows 7 Ultimate x86, and it shows the memory allocation managed by Windows Page size (bytes) 4096, Available Memory (MB) of 3439. The System Management BIOS reports 8192MB of main memory installed in the system. It reports that PAE mode is enabled.

As shown in the directions, I attempt to Configure Unmanaged Memory using the defaults: Use System Managed BIOS value / Automatically search for Reserved value / Direct address is set to Disable.

When I click OK to setup the ramdisk, I get the error "Unmanaged memory properties were not set. SuperCache/SuperVolume is configured for unmanaged memory.

If I try to create a ramdisk, whether Partitionable or Virtual, I get the error "Unable to create RAM disk due to insufficient available physical memory. Reduce the size specified, or free physical memory from other devices or processes."

Can you help me to setup this RAMdisk as I've looked at so many other googled sites, and none of their directions have worked?

Thank you. :-)

You say you can move browser temp files to ramdisk would you have to do this every boot or are your temp file locations stored in the registry and recreated automaticly at reboot?

setting pagefile to clear at shutdown is somethink i do anyway as a matter of course but i have never tried setting up a ram disk.

my motherboard supports only 4gb ram and i use 32bit xp, currently i have 3gb in dual channel mode, would fitting four gb and using 2gb as ramdisk for page file/temp files improve performance over having straight 3gb?

I imagine when ssd drives become more easily available and the price drops more average users will use ramdisk software to take care of the high read write page file/temp stuff to reduce the write cycling wear on the actual main drive
